A 1-Hour Skagway Shore Excursion — For those who want a fun start to the day
Step right up, travelers of fine judgment.
If you’ve arrived in Skagway by grand ocean liner and would like a proper introduction before wandering off on your own, allow me to present the Morning Mini Tour — a 1-hour Skagway shore excursion designed specifically for cruise ship guests who want the highlights, the history, and a clear sense of place.
I meet you at the dock.
I show you the town.
I send you off knowing exactly where you are and why it matters.
Efficient. Engaging. Sensibly timed.
🚢 Dockside Pickup — No Guesswork Required
When your cruise ship docks in Skagway, I’ll be there.
No wandering. No confusing meeting spots. No long treks before the tour even begins.
Just step off the ship and look for me, Alex, and I will be there with a sign waiting for you.
🏘 A Proper Introduction to Historic Skagway
I guide you through the historic district and along Broadway, pointing out the landmarks, buildings, and stories that shaped this Gold Rush town.
This is your overview — your lay of the land.
By the time we’re done, you’ll know:
- What happened here during the Klondike Gold Rush
- Which names still echo through town
- Where you might want to return later for a deeper look
- And why Skagway became one of the most talked-about towns in Alaska
Think of it as quick orientation — with personality.
🪦 Gold Rush Cemetery
Next, I take you just outside town to the historic Gold Rush Cemetery, one of Skagway’s most photographed sites.
Here you’ll:
- See the “largest gold nugget in the world” (safely chained to a tree, so no one takes it)
- Visit the graves of some of Skagway’s most memorable figures
- Hear the stories that give context to what you’re seeing
The cemetery sits on a gradual hill and includes natural outdoor terrain typical of Southeast Alaska. The ground is a bit uneven for those less sure-footed.
💧 Optional Waterfall Walk
For guests comfortable with light activity, there is a short uphill walk (over uneven trail) leading to a scenic waterfall.
It’s brief. It’s beautiful. It’s closer than it sounds. In fact, you can hear it from the top of the cemetary.
If you prefer to remain on the lower sidewalk area, you can still see the gold nugget display and view some of the cemetery grounds without navigating the incline.
I run this stop with flexibility — you choose your comfort level.
